Are the millions of players of MMO’s unknowingly reprogramming themselves to new social norms and standards of behavior?
Why do I ask?
I am at water park with my family enjoying some RnR after a horrible year that started a new with me in the ER and my car decimated.
I witness the same behavior from two young men, one wearing a horde branded shirt, perform the same douchbagery behavior that can be observed in the Valley of Four Winds while competing for reputation turn-ins. They circle claimed chairs like vultures, observing people’s towels cloths and sometimes touching them to make sure they are firmly in the chair. All so they can snag a chair as soon as it opens or as soon as they find one “accidentally” vacated of its possessions.
I offer to let them shove their stuff under the chair if they just let me sit, but I am rebuffed and mocked so I move on to a loan forgot about chair in the cold corner of an emergency exit and drag it to where I want it.
Once seated I see the chair where the two had just left their clothes, towels, and iPhone be plundered by yet a third person.
Is this the new cycle of digital life made reality?
